Durable Medical Equipment for Home Recovery

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

When people are injured badly they often need high quality and durable medical equipment to help continue their recovery at home after being discharged from the hospital.  In bad accidents where the injured person was lucky to be alive, they may need this kind of durable medical equipment in their home indefinitely just to continue functioning on a day to day basis.  No one expects an accident to happen that leaves them or a loved one injured, but it’s good to know there are various companies that can be located online where you can find all the right durable medical equipment to manage your care at home.

There are many benefits to shopping for durable medical equipment online.  For someone who has limited mobility it is very beneficial to be able to get medical supplies without leaving the house, for starters.  It also makes it easier to compare prices and see the various features of different equipment that is available on the Internet in order to find the most appropriate choice for you.  And there are typically customer service representatives who will answer your calls or reply to your emails if you have questions for any of these online companies.

Before ordering any durable medical equipment and supplies on the Internet, it is important to be sure that your doctor approves of the type of equipment your are ordering and that you or your caregiver knows how to use it properly.  Then you can feel confident that you are making the right decision.  Also, make sure that you are buying authentic durable medical equipment from a reputable online merchant with BBB accreditation.  Since your recovery and day to day living depends on it, the equipment you order always has to be durable and reliable.

Medical Insurance And Durable Medical Equipment

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Did you know that most people move to Canada from the United States simply for the state health insurance? All right, that is not true, but most people wouldlove to have free health insurance. Hospital stays, ambulance fees, and necessary medications are extremely expensive. If you find yourself in the hospital for as little as two days and you are not insured, you could find yourself in massive amounts of debt. They might have just hooked you up to an EKG machine, stuck in an IV, and monitored you closely and you still owe over $10,000.

The single largest group of uninsured Americans is individuals in their twenties. Most children are on their parent’s insurance until the age of 19; this coverage is extended if they are in college. Large companies and corporations offer their employees benefits such as health insurance for them and their entire family; however, most young people do not have the opportunity for these types of jobs. Most entry-level positions do not provide any benefits and thepay is so low that it is barely enough to pay for rent and food let alone medical insurance! As a result, most young people simply cannot afford to pay for medical supplies or even doctor’s check-ups.

Lawmakers agree that the large numbers of uninsured twenty-year-olds is something that needs to be fixed because if they did require medical help, these individuals are suddenly in a large amount of debt. Several plans have been proposed in different states to remedy this problem but no one solution has yet been found.

Individuals who do reach the age of 65 years old, however, do have state health insurance, which is know as Medicare. This program pays for several types of check-ups and procedures. Medicare is also obligated to pay for different types of medical equipment such as power wheelchairs, iron lungs, and oxygen tents. The equipment for which the Medicare program is obligated to pay for those who qualify is defined as durable medical equipment.

If you want to find out health insurance policies in your state, look up your state’s department of health website. Health insurance is extremely important!
