Why You Need Your Yearly Medical Check-Ups

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Everyone dislikes going to the doctor’s office. We all remember trips to our pediatrician’s office while growing up. Right before school started, you had to have a check-up to make sure you were developing normally and that you were healthy. The best part about these visits was always the lollipop or small toy the receptionist would give us at the end. That lollipop was the one reason why doctor’s visits were always better than dentist visits; all the dentist would give you at the end of the appointment was a free toothbrush!

As adults, we are very reluctant to go see the doctor especially if we feel perfectly healthy and fine. If nothing feels wrong, then nothing is wrong right? Unfortunately, this reasoning is not always true. Sometimes doctors can catch problems long before we notice they are even there. This occurrence is always ideal; if there is a problem, it is much better that a physician catches it early on before we even notice it so that is can be treated immediately.

If you do ignore a problem for too long, things could become much worse. What started out as a small nuisance turns out to be a major health issue and you might end up in the emergency room. Emergency rooms are always places you do not want to find yourself. The waits are always long, the nurses are curt, and you are surrounded by people who feel just as miserable as you do. If, for whatever reason, you have to be admitted to the hospital, things are even worse. You are surrounded by medical supply equipment instead of your loved ones, you have only microwave chicken and blue jell-o to eat, and the other patients in your room snore so loudly that you cannot get any sleep.

Avoid all those EKG machines and long emergency room waits! You might not need a check-up every year, but you should try to go once every two or three years. Also, make sure you practice healthy exercise and eating habits.  Your family wants you to be around for as long as possible! They do not want to purchase home medical equipment in order to spend more time with you; they want you to pay attention to your health from now on. Make a check-up appointment today!

Home Medical Equipment Makes Your Golden Years Better

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Have you ever wondered why the years after retirement are referred to as the “golden years”? It is wonderful to be able to relax, take vacations with your loved ones, spend time with your grandchildren, and catch up on all the reading you had wanted to do for months. You might be wiser but your body is simply not what it used to be. No matter how well you have watched your health over the years, there are no guarantees that you will avoid illness and injury.

Medical care is extremely expensive! Even if you made sure to save up for retirement, you do not want to find yourself facing thousands of dollars of medical expenses that you did not foresee. The United States government has a national health insurance program in place for citizens over the age of 65 known as Medicare. This program covers routine check-ups and a majority of the cost for unexpected hospital stays in addition to several different types of home medical equipment. If you are someone who needs an iron lung, wheelchair, or oxygen tent for home use, these items are covered by Medicare as durable medical equipment.

You can reduce the chance of an unexpected health crisis if you take care of yourself well! Make sure you have a yearly check-up with your personal physician. If anything feels unusual and you feel a constant pain, do not try to wave it off as nothing important, try to get it checked out right away.  Many people make the mistake of trying to ignore the problem for as long as possible. They are forced to do something about it when it finally becomes too painful to ignore but, by the time they make it to the emergency room, it might be too late. Do not let this situation happen to you! Your loved ones want you to be with them for as long as possible so do not be stubborn! Make sure you get problems checked out sooner rather than later!

If you do have a condition that needs constant medical attention, try to purchase home medical equipment so that you can stay with your family while you are recovering. You will be able to find medical supplies at an affordable price so that you can recover in the comfort of your own home!

When purchasing products to be used at home, you will need a basic medical kit for common illnesses, minor injuries, and common emergencies.  Offices may require a larger set of similar medical supplies depending on the number of employees, while certain work environments may need specialized supplies for injuries.  Clinics and hospitals have specialized needs for the latest wholesale medical supplies, ranging from the most basic to the most complex types of medical items.A basic first-aid kit should include a thermometer for taking temperatures, a dropper for measuring and administering liquid medicines, tweezers for removing splinters or ticks, rubbing alcohol to cleanse wounds, and bandages to stop bleeding and protect cuts. Some common medicines to keep on hand include antihistamines for allergic reactions and pain killers.  Aspirin is also useful in case of heart attacks.  Other helpful items include calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream, petroleum jelly, antibacterial cream, scissors, adhesive tape, cotton-tipped swabs (Q-tips), liquid soap, a hot-water bottle, an ice pack, and cotton gauze.
