Ensure you purchase the very best in Medical Supplies

Monday, February 16th, 2009

There is a large range of medical supplies available on todayâ??s market. However it is vitally important that before you purchase your supplies you need to make an informed decision as to whether you require bathroom aids, walkers or wheelchairs. It is important to investigate the quality, prices and type of supplies that are openly available to you. With the growth of retail sales on the Internet, there are endless choices of medical supplies. That is why smart shopping always pays.

Physicians are often bombarded with countless discount offers from these online sellers. Online shops offer a more convenient way to shop especially to those time-strapped doctors. This is why online medical supply sellers have gained popularity over the years. Nevertheless, some physicians are reluctant to try this virtual market because some sites are not yet a year old. As result, physicians often wonder if they would be able to deliver their promises. But one cannot deny the fact that online purchasing cost less than buying from regular sellers. With the increased competition in the Web that constantly reduces prices, it is even more appealing for physicians to try these online shops. Additionally, with the products and their prices only clicks away no wonder many physicians are lured into this virtual market.

For individuals who simply need medical supplies or equipments for their home, the online market can also be a good place to shop. There are no nosy salespersons that follow you around, no fuss and no worry of having to make a decision right away. However, you have to ask your doctor, caregiver or rehabilitation therapist which specific piece of equipment is appropriate for you. Know all the details about the supply or equipment. Sometimes a simple crutch can be made more comfortable and safer when correctly used and adjusted. Simply put you need to find a good selection, get informed expert advice and find reasonably priced supplies to find the right medical supplies and equipments.

The continued efficiency of the Internet has helped a lot in keeping the prices of medical supplies and equipments low. Aside from low prices, the easy order system of online stores has made them more appealing. You can easily put a request online and wait for distributors to respond. And bulk purchases are always welcome as most seller have not set a minimum number or orders. But of course the security issue is always there. Although encrypted sites do well in protecting their transactions, the procedures for distribution of controlled items and drugs has somehow added to the slowed medical sales of online shops. Additionally, because there are no paper trails involved in Internet sales, resolving problems and disputes are often difficult.

When considering online seller make sure you have the right reasons to do so. You would not want to regret your purchase in the end. So make an informed decision.

How to Finance your Medical Office, Medical Supply or Medical Testing Company

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

Although many experts speak of gloom and doom in the medical industry, the fact is that this industry keeps growing by leaps and bounds. Every year, the demand for medical services, medical testing (e.g. MRI Centers, Testing Centers, etc) and medical supplies keeps getting stronger. This trend is expected to continue as the population ages.

However, even though the growth trend looks good, running a medically related business keeps getting more and more challenging. In the past, doctors and medical suppliers could expect to get large and quick reimbursements for their services. Cash flow was reasonably easy to manage. However, Medicare, Medicaid and 3rd party insurance companies have put in place strict compensation guidelines. These guidelines can be summarized in two simple points: you can look to receive less money than before and you should be prepared to wait longer to get paid.

This creates a financial “perfect storm” for medical industry companies. On one hand, you are getting paid less and waiting longer for your money. On the other hand, your operating expenses remain the same or perhaps are higher. You still need to pay your employees and your suppliers. In almost all cases, this limits your ability to pursue new opportunities and grow your business. In some cases, it may even threaten your ability to continue to operate your business.

Is there a way to “fix” the cash flow problem?

If your business’s main cash flow problem is not being able to afford to wait 30 to 90 days to get paid by insurance companies and Medicare, then factoring your invoices could be the right solution for you.

The factoring proposition is very simple. Factoring is a way of financing, in which a factoring company provides you with advance payments based on your outstanding accounts receivable (or invoices). You get funding as soon as you invoice. The factoring funds it and waits to get paid until the insurance companies or Medicare pay the invoices.

Factoring has advantages over loans and lines of credit. First, factoring financing lines do not have arbitrary limits. The maximum amount of monthly financing is solely determined by your ability to invoice. If your business grows, your financing grows automatically. Also, factoring companies don’t require the same collateral that banks do, so new businesses or doctors’ offices can usually qualify easily.

How does factoring work?

The process is fairly simple. Once an agreement is established with a factoring company, it works as follows:

Your office submits your weekly (daily or monthly) billings to the insurance company and to Medicare/Medicaid. (note: sometimes this task can be handled by the factor on your behalf)

Your office sends a copy of the billings to the factoring company.

The factoring company advances you up to 85% of Net Collectables within 48 hours. Funds are sent by wire or direct deposit. The remaining 15% is called a “reserve” and used to settle billing discrepancies at time of payment. This is returned to you once the invoices are paid.

The factoring company waits to be paid by the insurance company or Medicare/Medicaid.

Once the factoring company is paid, they settle out the transaction and rebate you the remaining 15%, less their fee.

The advantage of factoring

Factoring is ideally suited for medical offices and testing centers that are growing quickly and cannot afford to wait the usual 30 to 90 days that it takes to be paid by insurance companies or Medicare. It can provide you with ongoing financing, streamline your cash flow, and most of all, relieve the stress of not knowing when you’ll be paid.

If you are in the line of work where you save people’s lives for a living – then chances are you are like every other professional person out there. You need specific supplies and tools to do your job right. Thankfully, since this is the Internet, you have a lot of different options in front of you as far as what is available, what options and styles you can choose from and what kinds of prices you are going to be looking at. Since this is the Internet, you probably chose to shop online for things such as EMS gear, EMT supplies and emergency medical supplies because you have been hearing about all the benefits.

First off, this is really convenient. It’s all about saving time and buying items quickly – even from your home or office. Secondly, if you need a specific product, even something that is rare, you can find it online. You simply need to find the right company to work with. And lastly, the biggest reason people shop online? It’s probably because of the low prices. Even for supplies that are high-end, you will find price drops for online supplies versus online supplies. As far as variety goes, here are a few items you can buy online.

- Urological Catheters: A lot of the items you can find are going to vary by type of use as well. In this instance, the Urological Catheters are usually used in hospitals, nursing homes and hospices. You have a few different styles available such as latex, external, intermittent, reusable, FOLEY and even a touchless option.

- Tracheotomy Care: These are obviously used for surgical operations on the neck to obtain a target air passage through an incision in the trachea. These are executed by paramedics, veterinarians, emergency doctors and operating surgeons. Both surgical and trans-cutaneous techniques are now widely used in the medical field. Options include suction catheters, pumps, humidification, replacement parts, tubes and tracheal care and cleaning.

- Surgical Supplies: This is a HUGE category to choose from. You can pick from any style of products, services, items, types of doctors, types of surgeries such as cardiovascular, liposuction, micro surgery, dermal, etc. If anything this is the one category where you might have a lot of trouble finding what you want, but that isn’t because of the minimal products available, it’s because of the LARGE number of products available. Most sites will have a surgical section which will then allow you to narrow down your choices – which is very helpful in this instance!

- Specialty Wound Care: These specialty wound care products are designed specifically for burns and cuts. They can also be used for drainage, absorbing blood, composite dressings, etc. You have everything from compression bandages and foam dressings to Hydrocolloid Alginate dressings and Sodium Chloride dressings available to you. Some of these are going to simply be used to “cover” up and aid in the compression of the area where the wound is. While others will actually be used to keep the pain at a minimal degree. I have also seen Hydro-cortisone wound care as well.

- Respiratory: Various respiratory problems can be used with these products such as obstructive conditions, restrictive conditions, vascular disease, infectious or environmental diseases. Disorders of these diseases are oftentimes treated by a pulmonologist, but products such as irrigation, asthmatic care and oxygen therapy is oftentimes used by hospitals and EMT professionals. You can also find accessories in this section as well such as compressors for Nebulizers and masks for CPAP and bi-level ventilation.

If you are an EMS, EMT or other health professional, know that you can get quality supplies – no matter the type, style or function it is used for, and you can find them quickly and easily
